Abstract |
Mathematics plays a fundamental role in the undergraduate curricula of the natural sciences and engineering.
However, the obvious connection between mathematics and the student's field of study often remains obscure.
The project math-kit is addressed to build this bridge between mathematics and
its applications. Within the project we are developing a web-based construction kit in order to support both
teachers and students with interactive learning elements.
After a general introduction and an overview of the math-kit project, we will present different
examples of how to implement the construction kit in the teaching of mathematics and mechanical engineering
as well as in self-education. Moreover we will demonstrate the web-based use of the computer algebra
system MuPAD within the context of a differential equation that serves as a simplified mathematical model of a car.
